Ta Daa

Today Ray and I started a tradition and hopefully it's a tradition that lasts.

We never had date nights before Levin was born, because pretty much every night Ray was home was date night.  Every night isn't a date night any more.

Bless the man's heart that offered to take our picture.
He tried really hard, but forgot to tell me I had some serious hair tweakers.

I planned this weekend's date.  I suggested we work our way through the alphabet to keep us from going to dinner and a movie every weekend.  We started with A.

Airplane

We went to Gas Works Park on Lake Union and watched all the float planes take off and land at the water airport.  Since it was a perfect day in Seattle, we also saw all the boats going back and forth to the boat locks.  Levin just lied on the blanket and watched everything going on.  He would occasionally try and talk to us, but mostly he just wanted to see what was going on.  We had a picnic of KFC chicken, a cucumber salad (from Ray's garden) and beet salad (also from the garden).  We had a wonderful afternoon and I'm so excited for B.

We knew it was time to leave when Levin started trying to get himself back into his car seat.

Actually Ray was helping him learn how to stand.  We expect he'll be doing simple math by January.

Side Note:  I like to think a lot about what finally makes a person an adult.  Some of my best guesses are when you first subscribe to a professional journal, or when you buy your first major appliance, or when you take your first meal to a person that is sick or has just had a baby.  I think I've finally come up with the real answer... when you finally like to eat cucumbers and beets and squash and peas and all the other vegetables that made you dry-heave even last year.

Just in case you wanted to see one more of him.  I think the park wore him out.  He just lied on the floor when we got home.

Ray got a new camera and we're still learning how to use it... so a lot of the pictures are pretty washed out.  Rather than be upset I ruined a picture, I just think of them as artistic.

We need some date night inspiration around these parts, and the alphabet might just be it.

We used to do date night, but before baby was mostly before grad school and so it also included a little more money. Inspiration is harder to come by when it has budget constraints!
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, how fun. I definitely thought the pictures were artistic.

I love your new tradition.

I love your tradition of blogging about it, too :)

Levin has grown again! How does that happen each week? His little legs are chubbing out.

Thank you for taking the time to post. I got so excited seeing one in my que waiting to be read.
I forgot to say that I think vegetable tolerance is a very good adult indicator. Good observation. I've yet to subscribe to a journal, but after that thought I'm thinking it maybe should be time. Please tell me Ladies Home Journal could count.

Finally! Baby pictures. I've been in Levin withdrawal and now I'm feeling much better.

I think wanting soup instead of a hamburger is another sign of maturity. Wanting the bottom floor of a motel is another dead give away.

I'll be anxious to follow the alphabet as EVERY night is a date night with myself:)and one hour of Bill O-Reiley and talking at the T.V. is about as exciting as it gets.

Yay! Pictures! I love your family pictures! What a great date night idea...I may steal it, maybe not now, but eventually! Oh I look forward to your posts, so keep them coming! Another indicator of getting old: For Christmas isn't it great getting mixing bowls, or spoons, etc.? Another great one is shopping for clothes is one thing, but couldn't you spend hours at Bed, Bath, and beyond thinking of all the home things you love?!

Great idea for date nights. And such a sweet baby. Tell Ray to slow down with the whole standing, growing-up thing. Slow WAY, WAY DOWN.
